“Early Season Chinook & Halibut Harvest”

BEST KEPT SECRET ON THE WEST COAST OF VANCOUVER ISLAND

Hello {tag:firstname},

“Early Season Chinook & Halibut Harvest”

Yes we are blessed to have some of the BEST May & June

Fishing/Catching on the WEST COAST of Vancouver Island.

Why is May & June fishing so GOOD in Esperanza and Nootka?

Answer: The Columbia River and its many tributaries. Chinook runs come right to our door step to feed on the enormous schools of needle fish and Spawning Herring. Yes, this run annually is 750,000-1 million +. Add to that our usual crop of winter Springs and there is a lot of opportunity for filling your fish box.

Where to fish. The mouths of both Nootka Sound & Esperanza Inlet are both excellent bets. These catch-able waters are both on the inside and outside waters. For Esperanza inside waters, fish all of Hecate chan. It is especially HOT fishing at Cee Pee Cee, at the mouth of McBride Bay, Steamer Pt. out to Centre Is. Outside waters to catch are Pin Rks, Low Rk., Catala Is. and the world-famous Ferrer Pt.

For Nootka, inside waters fish Anderson Pt., Marvinas, Burdwood to Escalante and Nootka light area. Outside fish Maquinna Rks., Bajo Reef & Beano Creek.

 5 Men 5 Halibut 17, 41, 48, 61 & 68lbs All caught on Esperanza Reef
in 1.5 Hrs.
Frank Hefner with the 1st Tyee in the Spring of 2016 31lbs with a partly clipped adipose fin. Very likely a Columbia River Hatchery Chinook. Caught on May 12th

Baits that work. It is all about matching the hatch. SMALL – Anchovies, Coho Killers and Coyote spoons, Flash Fly and glow/pearl/green hoochies all work well. Troll deep at 10 ft. off the bottom. Often will load you up on Halibut, Ling Cod and Salmon. When you find suspended schools of  bait, run your gear approx. 10 ft. above them. HOLD ON- Fish On!

Marv Nilsen from Langley when Ling Cod Fishing with three of his friends. Limits all around 12 ling with the largest this 56lb Beast!! The other 11 lings average weight was 23lbs.
Gord Tiller with inside-Whales Tail 75lb Halibut

Bottom Fishing/Catching is very GOOD in our area with generous limits. A mixed daily bag would fill your fish box with Halibut, Yellow Eye, Green Ling, Cabazon, Ling Cod and MORE! Our guides have been using Large Durable Swimbaits in glow colors for best results recently. Large herring and jigs also work well. If you are fishing out of your own boat stop by the Westview Marina Tackle Shop and we will get the charts out with GPS coordinates to help you find the Bottom fish HOT Spots.
